Ohio Community Credit Union Gets SOC 2 Type II Ready in 4 Months

What we walked into

A central-Ohio community credit union was four months out from a high-value fintech integration that required SOC 2 Type II evidence. The CIO had received quotes ranging from 9 to 14 months from regional MSSPs. The credit union had reasonable controls in place — FFIEC-aligned MFA, encrypted backups, documented BCP — but no SOC 2-grade control documentation, no continuous monitoring evidence trail, and no managed SOC. The fintech partnership was worth roughly $1.2M in annual non-interest income; missing the readiness window meant losing the deal.

What we did

• Placed the SOC 2-aware MDR partner that runs in regulated financial environments and produces evidence in the format auditors expect
• Stood up continuous control monitoring (Vanta) and tied it to the partner's SOC + the credit union's existing FFIEC controls
• Wrote or rewrote 11 control documents (logical access, change management, vendor management, incident response, vulnerability management)
• Coordinated with the credit union's existing audit firm to start the SOC 2 Type II audit window within the 4-month timeline
• Sat on the calls with the fintech partner's vendor-risk team to walk them through evidence as the audit progressed
